Garry Winogrand
Garry Winogrand
Report on your initial reactions to the artist's work.
I noticed a lot of people on his photos. I also noticed that most of them have a social meaning.
How would you categorize their work?
I would say it's something like street photography but also documentary photography.
Compare their works to works you’ve seen before. How do they compare? Do you like them or dislike them and why?
I realized that his work looks similar to Elliott Erwitt's photography but I think Winogrand's photography involves more visible social meanings.
If someone made their work today, how would it be different or the same?
It would include more recent social problems and social stuff in general.
Analyze the quote at the end of the slide show.
“Photography is not about the thing photographed. It is about how that thing looks photographed.” I think that this is very true since most stuff can be photographed but it won’t necessarily look good if you don’t
give it a meaning.
Make sure to include images that stood out to you either from the powerpoint or ones found online.
